The THRIVE Individual Commitment

A Personal Commitment to Elevating Emotionally Safe, Dignity-Protecting Care

I believe healthcare should heal without harming — emotionally, ethically, or relationally.

I recognize that distress, escalation, burnout, and moral injury are not personal failures, but signals of systems under strain.

By signing this commitment, I acknowledge that while I may not control the system, I do influence conversations, norms, and moments of care within it.

I commit to helping elevate the conversation around emotionally safe care inside my organization — even when it is uncomfortable, unfinished, or not yet widely supported.

Specifically, I commit to:

1. Name what I notice
I will notice and name moments of care that feel distressing, rushed, or misaligned — for patients, families, or staff — and treat them as signals worth examining, not situations to normalize or ignore.

2. Frame Conversations Around Systems, Not Blame
When raising concerns or ideas, I will move conversations away from individual fault and toward thoughtful system design.
I will look for patterns instead of pointing fingers, ask what the system is reinforcing, and redirect discussions toward shared responsibility, emotional safety, and sustainable change.

4. Advocate for small, testable change
When possible, I will support and advocate for small, practical QI projects and tests that make care calmer, clearer, and more humane — rather than waiting for perfect conditions or large programs.

5. Share learning
I will share insights, stories, and lessons learned — formally or informally — to help others see what is possible and to reduce isolation in this work.

6. Resist normalization of harm
I will not accept emotional harm, coercion, or moral injury as “just part of the job.”

I understand that THRIVE is a way of seeing, speaking, and shaping care — one moment and one conversation at a time.

By signing this commitment, I join a growing community of individuals working to make emotionally safe care visible, discussable, and redesignable for the patients, families, and colleagues who come after us.

After signing, I understand I will receive practical tools, actionable emails, and ready-to-use resources to help bring this commitment to life inside my organization, along with a social sharing kit to invite others into the movement and build collective momentum.
